At ACT San Antonio, we understand how stressful the teacher certification process can be which is why we make it a priority to assist educators in becoming teachers through our alternative teacher certification process. Our commitment goes above and beyond to help you not only become a certified teacher in San Antonio, but to obtain a teaching position in the fields you are interested in. We aim to offer you the best in alternative teacher certification as we continue to support your career as a teacher well beyond the certification process.

Have you always wanted to teach, but because of our economy, put your dreams on hold? NOW IS THE TIME! Districts are hiring! If you have started the process in our program - get busy and be ready for hire Fall 2013.

You are not eligible for employment until you pass your teacher exam, complete your 30 hours of classroom observations, and complete pre service training. There is time to get it all taken care of for fall employment. WE NEED CANDIDATES WITH A PASSION FOR TEACHING READY FOR THE CLASSROOM!

Impt Updates from ACT - clinical teaching apps
Considering Clinical teaching in Fall 2012?
APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED May 1-15 in the ACT OFFICE

Clinical Teaching is a 12 week, unpaid program that can lead to a standard certificate and full certification. A clinical teaching assignment takes the place of a paid internship and offers another route to certification through ACT.

Clinical teaching is open to any ACT candidate that has completed all the requirements (including field based expereinces!) and could be especially beneficial to candidates that have passed all their testing requiremnts.

-IF YOU TEACH (OR PLAN TO TEACH!) IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING AREAS, YOU WILL ONLY BE ELIGIBLE TO TEACH AT THE 7th AND 8th GRADE. YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE AN ADDITIONAL TExES EXAM (EC-6 Generalist) TO BE ELIGIBLE TO TEACH GRADES 4-6 AND MAKE YOURSELF MORE MARKETABLE:
4-8 Math
4-8 Science
4-8 Social Studies
4-8 ELA/R
4-8 ELA/R - Social Studies
4-8 Math - Science

January / February ACTIVITIES
-We are making appointments for our application process on Tuesdays at 10 am and 2 pm , Wednesdays at 2 pm and 6 pm, Thursdays: 10 am and 2 pm.

Candidates may come in at any time on M, W, F to finish up ACT paperwork without an appointment, although we recommend that you call first to make sure that one of our Program Directors will be present to meet with you!

Once you secure employment, you need to call the office so we can schedule you in for Internship Orientation.

*Must be signed up to attend! Sing up on our website by Jan 12 so we make sure we have instructors and materials! This session is PART 2 for the EC-6 Gen, 4-8 Gen, and SPED only.

The next available Institute begins in June but you will want to start now so you can complete the online modules and field based experiences!

TExES Review Information - April 2012
The next paper based TExES exam is scheduled for May 19th.

If you are taking a computer administered TExES exam or the May PBT, you are welcome to come into the office and work through a review packet any time on a M, W, F! Please call to make sure that space is available!

The next round of TExES content review sessions are scheduled for April 17 & 19 - from 6 - 9 pm at the Winston School. EC-6,
4-8, SPED, and EC-12 PPR reviews extend for BOTH evenings

Tutorial sessions are scheduled for the second night.

It will be IMPERATIVE that you sign up for the TExES reviews on our website BEFORE Apr 11 so that we can be prepared with enough materials and instructors.
